JPA Annotations with JSF, Spring, TopLink & Tomcat

If you want to use JPA annotations with JSF, Toplink and Spring running under Tomcat, then you MUST include the Toplink essentials jar in the Tomcat lib directory, along with any jdbc driver classes. Your persistence.xml file can reside anywhere on the classpath.

You don't get a warning if you don't, other than the "abstract schema does not exist" message.

Windows x64

Having migrated to x64, I thought I post a few notes on how this went.

I'll add specific topics later, but overall, it wasn't too bad. I did a clean install onto a new disk and left my old apps on their original disks. Most things work, some things don't, which is really annoying.

I'm not too sure why certain software vendors don't release x64 drivers for their hardware or an x64 compatible version of their software. From all the info I've read, it's not too difficult to write a new driver, or recompile the software to work in 64-bits.

I guess it's just economics and sheer laziness on the vendors part.
